Archaeology

Archaeological remains are rare and irreplaceable. For this reason, according to the Heritage Act, only holders of a certificate for that purpose are allowed to excavate archaeological sites.

The Archaeological division strives to ensure that this research complies with the highest standards, that the relics and documentation relating to excavations are treated appropriately, and that the quality of reports is safeguarded.

Furthermore, this division is in charge of the inspection of legally protected archaeological monuments and informs the minister regarding developments in the archaeological field.
