INTERPOL is the world’s largest international police organisation, with ca. 190 member countries.

The aim of Interpol is to facilitate international police cooperation. Action is taken within the limits of existing laws in different countries and in the spirit of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Netherlands has been a member since 1923. Regarding the protection of cultural heritage, Interpol has developed a Stolen Works of Art Database which contains information, provided by the National Central Bureaus and other authorized entities, on descriptions and pictures on stolen or missing works of art.
